Sables bitumineux

Le pétrole se fait plus rare et les compagnies pétrolières sont à la recherche effrénées d’alternatives énergétiques.

Bien sûr il y a les énergies renouvelables mais les investissements sont conséquents et certains rendements aléatoires puisque dépendant pour certains du vent, pour d’autres du soleil.

Il existe pourtant une autre source d’énergie dont nous avions vaguement parlé sur le site (ici et là) il s’agit des sables bitumineux.

On estime la part exploitable à 41 milliards de tonne équivalent pétrole (tep) soit environ 40 ans d’autonomie si on remplace notre consommation de pétrole par les sables bitumineux.

Alors serait ce une nouvelle ère ?

Tout d’abord qu’est ce que ce brol bitumineux ?

Ces sables bitumineux sont principalement situés sous une forêt boréale au Canada à une profondeur de plus de 50m.

Donc pour commencer l’exploitation il faudra d’abord raser la forêt …

Ensuite pour exploiter le pétrole contenu dans ces sables il faut utiliser de l’eau chaude selon le procédé de Karl Clark ; on estime que pour produire 1l de bitume il faut 4 à 5 l d’eau.

Sachant qu’il faut traiter 4 tonnes de sable pour produire un barril de pétrole je vous laisse imaginer le volume d’eau nécessaire à l’extraction…

Soyons positif … si si … on va essayer tout du moins financièrement parlant!

Le gouvernement canadien va investir 25 milliards de $ d’ici 2020 pour exploiter cette ressource ce qui devrait créer 44 000 emplois et générer un profit de plus de 100 milliards de $.

Maintenant il reste à savoir qui va réellement profiter de ces milliards ?

Je parierais bien ma culotte que ce ne seront pas les indigènes, pari tenu ??

Soyons un peu lucide maintenant…

La production d’un barril de pétrole issus de ces sables est très gourmande en énergie, on estime que pour produire un seul baril de pétrole provenant des sables bitumineux il faut brûler l’équivalent de un tiers à deux tiers de baril de pétrole.

Ajoutons y un impact environnemental des plus catastrophiques et vous obtenez le magnifique cocktail de l’énergie que vous lèguerez à vos enfants.

Alors au lieu d’investir des milliards dans un puits ne devrait on pas plutôt investir dans la recherche d’une alternative durable ?
