Les 2.400 panneaux solaires qui épousent le toit incurvé de l’immense salle de 5.000 mètres carrés permettront de fournir 300 MW sur l’année, avec des pics de 221 KW/heure, selon le Vatican.

L’énergie produite servira aux besoins de la salle, qui accueille régulièrement les audiences générales du pape ainsi que des congrès et des concerts, et à ceux des bâtiments voisins. Elle permettra d’économiser l’équivalent de 80 tonnes de pétrole par an.
