Mais ce n’est pas vraiment important.

Le commerce international du bois n’est pas obligatoirement un système à jeter. On peut acheter du bois de Finlande ou d’ailleurs sans soucis. Le problème selon moi, c’est plutôt les conditions dans lesquelles on obtient ce bois. En Europe, les réglementations environnementales sont strictes, et le bois provient de forêt de productions gérées dans cet objectif, mais dans des pays où les réglementations sur le bois sont beaucoup plus laxistes ou alors pas appliquées, les coupes sauvages, mal gérées, de grandes étendues de forêt précieuse posent des problèmes graves. Pertes catastrophiques de diversité, érosion des sols, dégagement de quantités gigantesques de CO2, etc…

En conséquence, si vous souhaitez construire un chalet en madrier en Savoie, il vous en coûteras beaucoup moins de faire venir le bois de Scandinavie que d’utiliser celui de la forêt voisine.

Très souvent, les politiciens ou les personnes dont l’intérêt est d’éviter ce constat diront que l’Europe est plus boisée qu’au moyen-âge. Ce qui est peut-être vrai, mais qui ne justifie pas de faire disparaitre de grandes zones de forêt amazonienne ou indonésienne.

C’est comme lorsqu’on achète une voiture qui pollue un peu moins mais qu’on continue à acheter du bœuf argentin, des tomates d’Israël et des asperges du Pérou. C’est se voiler la face.
